The purpose of the event was to re-discuss the problems of gender-based violence and understand how each and every one of us can participate in the fight against all forms of violence against women and girls of diverse sexual and gender identities.
In Kyrgyzstan, violence against people with female gender socialization is often justified by culture, traditions, and religion. But there can be no excuse for violence. This is an important date for the LGBT community of Kyrgyzstan, since every day lesbian, bisexual, queer and trans * people in our country face different types of violence, due to female socialization, sexual orientation and gender identity.
A video clip of a social experiment, which the "fLabrys" team carried out on Erkindik Boulevard, was shown at the event. The purpose of the experiment was to test the reaction of passers-by to violence against women happening near them. The audio project “Unbroken Voices” was presented. Participants of the event also played an interactive game “Safe Places”, revealing how LGBT people perceive spaces from the point of view of their safety, and passed a specially prepared quiz on the prevention of gender-based violence.
